About me

My name is Wanda Verbeek (1974). I have 4 children who I am very proud of. I started as a nurse. From about 2007, when we had been married for 12 years and had 3 children, we became a foster family. During that time, a number of children and babies passed through our home.

Caring for someone else has thus been part of me from the beginning. That passion has increasingly developed into personal care for others. I followed a two-year course in Pastoral Counseling, and after experiencing pastoral care in practice in 2010, the idea started to bubble up in me to really do something with this.

I followed a 2-year course in pastoral care at Stichting Vrij Zijn. I also studied Spiritual Direction for a year, and obtained a certificate in Grief and Depression. From September 2022 I will be doing the Post-HBO study in Psychosocial Therapy and I am following my heart in learning more about people.

I would love to take a walk with you.

Who are you?

Areas that you could work at:

  • Spiritual growth

  • Blockages and/or strongholds in your thinking

  • Identity

  • Feelings of inferiority

  • Fears and anxieties

  • Depression

  • Grief and loss

I would love to get to know you and chart what exactly those layers are that potentially inhibit your growth, autonomy, and potential. We will also discover together where they come from and what is needed to break through them.

I am by your side. You do not have to go through this alone and I offer to join you on your journey for a season, to encourage you, and to support you.

For Teens

Are you 14 or older and do you notice that it's all a bit too much? Maybe you're stuck in your head, feeling sad or insecure, or you just have no idea what you're feeling anymore. You're not the only one—and you don't have to do it alone.

At “De Dorsslede” you can come by for a listening ear and honest, relaxed conversations. No judgment. No pressure. Just you, exactly as you are.

What kind of struggles you might have that we can talk about:

  • Stress from school, choices or expectations

  • Panic attacks

  • Difficulty accepting yourself

  • Sadness, anger or fear that you can't handle well

  • Things that are going on at home or with friends

  • Or just to put everything in perspective

We talk, sometimes do something creative or with visual material and look together for what works for you. You set the pace.

It's your place. Therapy is not for people who “can’t do it”, it is for people who dare to be honest about what is going on. That is powerful.

Information for parents/caregivers

As a parent, you naturally want to know how your child is doing. That is why you remain involved. Every five sessions we plan a parent meeting, live or by telephone. We then discuss in broad terms how things are going, without breaking the confidentiality of the conversations with your child.

Together we ensure a safe and supportive foundation, at home and in the practice.

At my practice, everybody is welcome.

I love people who are curious. Curious about themselves, about their potential, and of course curious about what these sessions could bring you. It is important to feel safe, and it is the best when you feel heard and seen.

About
De Dorsslede

A threshing sledge (Dutch: dorsslede) is an agricultural tool used for threshing, especially in the Middle East and the Mediterranean region. It is a heavy board with hard points of stone or metal on the underside.

During threshing, the board was pulled over the ears of grain by a donkey or an ox. By pulling the sharp stones or pieces of metal over the ears, the grains were cut loose from the ears and separated from the chaff. At the same time, the straw, the stalks that remained, was also finely chopped. Often, additional weight was placed on the threshing sledge, such as a stone or the farmer himself, to separate the chaff from the grain.

The Tool

At harvest, the delicate herbs and spices, dill and cumin, are delicately treated. Yet threshing is a painful process for the ears, but necessary to separate the wheat from the chaff. Likewise, working on your layers is often a painful process, but necessary to shine again: no friction, no shine.

On the other hand, wheat is threshed and ground, but still not endlessly. Fortunately, these processes come to an end, although it can feel endless in the process itself. In life, we encounter seasons that can be experienced as if you are trapped under a pulverizing threshing sledge, where it can be challenging when we do not know how much longer it will take.

The farmer knows how to treat each type of grain. The operation of the threshing sledge was limited in duration. Too long and you would damage the grain, too short and the process was not completed. The farmer knew exactly how long to thresh the grain. In this way we will also discover together what is needed to (re)discover your true self, without continuing endlessly.

The italicized sections are quotes from Isaiah 28 from the Bible, where the threshing sledge is used as an example for processes of growth.

Het Proces

My experience is that these processes always have a twofold result. First, you will come out more and more yourself—who you really are. And second, by discovering the keys, you will increasingly be able to prevent yourself from being hidden under new layers.

Whenever we may feel weak and overwhelmed now, there is always the promise that we ourselves will become a threshing sledge, to pulverize the hills and mountains in our own lives.

There is a victor in everyone; including you!

The Result

That is why my practice is called "De Dorsslede": because you too, just like me, can learn to thresh your own life in such a way that your beautiful sides are no longer covered by the layers that life sometimes imposes on you.

Isaiah prophesies about the people of Israel that the people would be like a threshing sledge, to "thresh the mountains and break them into dust, and make hills like chaff." Mountains and hills often represent difficult circumstances and insurmountable problems. But God made them sharp, so that they could overcome those situations again and again.

See, I will make you a sharp threshing sledge, a new one with pointed teeth. You will thresh the mountains and break them into dust, and make hills. You will winnow them, the wind will pick them up, and the whirlwind will scatter them. But you will rejoice in the LORD, and you will boast in the Holy One of Israel. – Isaiah 41: 15 & 16
